The Upper West Akim Constituency on Monday 19th and Thursday 22nd May, 2025 launched and embarked on the World Hypertension Celebration Day respectively.
The launch was held in the District Assembly Hall and was chaired by the Chief of Adeiso who sent a delegation to represent him.
The newly sworn in D.C.E Hon. Rebecca Chissah was the special guest to occasion. She indicated in her address that hypertension is a non communicable disease and it’s affecting more lives especially the youth and middle age group.
She indicated that lifestyles such as drinking of excessive alcohol, poor nutrition and excessive workload are some major causes of the disease.
She admonished everyone especially the youth to check the negative attitudes resulting in getting hypertension. She finally called on stakeholders for team work to help curb the manners. The D.C.E on Thursday which is a major market day in the District Capital led the Health Directorate to embark on a float to sensitise the entire Community on hypertension illness in the Adeiso Market and some catchment part of the District. She used the opportunity to listen to the plight of the market women.
The District Health Director gave a practical means through which the disease could be acqured and further showed video projecton.
He said 17.9% representing 10million death is recorded Annually . He also said majority of people affected by hypertension may not be aware of the disease thus the high rate of death recorded.
He advised affected persons should seek early health assistance from trained and professionals and avoid taking both Traditional and the Western medication together.
The Health Director thanked Naanom, the D.C.E and the Assembly for their unwavering support to fighting Health challenges in the Upper West Akim Constituency.
