UWADA Marks 65 Independence Day Celebration In Upper West Akim District
The Upper West Akim District Assembly took part in this year 65th independence day celebrations at its District capital(Adeiso) with the theme: "Working Together, Bouncing Back Better". All basic schools in the district capital Zoom in including the only Senior High school took part. All participants received various awards. The DCE told students/Pupils to take their studies seriously in order to selvage their families from poverty. The DCE concluded his speech by thanking all and sundry for a successful occasion. Upper West Akim District Assembly, has distributed a number of items and an amount of GH¢33,000.00, , to 50 Persons with Disability (PWDs), in the district to enhance their livelihoods. The items, included deep freezers, industrial machines, hair dryers, rollers, towels, wheel chairs, walking aids and white cane purchased from the share of the District Disability Fund. 2021 Census Night: Counting Begins".
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) Sunday started the actual enumeration of people, starting with those in transit. Enumerators in the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) visited various places to count people in homeless households in makeshift structures and open spaces, described as “outside sleepers”, people who were in transit, those at transport terminals, those who were spending short stays in institutions such as hotels and guest houses and hospitals. The Census Night, defined as the period between 6 p.m. yesterday and 6 a.m. this morning, saw more than 60,000 enumerators across the country spending the night counting the eligible class of people. UWADA Supports Ohum Festival".
TThe District Chief Executive of Upper West Kim District Assembly led a delegation of the Assembly and some party representatives to pay homage to five selected traditional areas of the district to commemorate with them the 2021 Ohum festival. Ohum is a ban on drumming and noise making for a period of two weeks in the Akyem land. The ban which was lifted on Tuesday 20th July opened the way for a gathering of chiefs and elders of the traditional areas on Wednesday while their subjects paid homage. The DCE and his entourage paid the courtesy call on chiefs and elders of Adeiso, Asikasu, Asuokaw, Nyanoah and Mepom traditional areas.Read more...
