The District Chief Executive of Upper West Kim District Assembly led a delegation of the Assembly and some party representatives to pay homage to five selected traditional areas of the district to commemorate with them the 2021 Ohum festival.
Ohum is a ban on drumming and noise making for a period of two weeks in the Akyem land. The ban which was lifted on Tuesday 20th July opened the way for a gathering of chiefs and elders of the traditional areas on Wednesday while their subjects paid homage.
The DCE and his entourage paid the courtesy call on chiefs and elders of Adeiso, Asikasu, Asuokaw, Nyanoah and Mepom traditional areas.
Addressing the gatherings, The DCE wished Nananom well and a happy new year and prayed for good health, long life and development to the district as a whole.
On the other hand, the Chief of Asuokaw, Barima Kwame Ofori II showed appreciation for the donations made by the DCE and his entourage and pleaded for more support to complete the Durbar grounds of the community. He also admonished his subjects to cultivate the habit of planting more tress to preserve the environment and desist from defecating on the school compounds as a task force has been set up to check that menace. He asked the DCE to support the community with more trees to be planted along the River Ayesu.
Osabarima Asare Oduro II, on his part thanked the DCE and his team for the kind gesture and the donations. He called for cooperation and development for the people of the district and Ghana as a whole.
Barima Adjei Konadu Yiadom II (chief of Asikasu) also commended the DCE for paying homage amidst great cultural display and pageantry.
The delegation donated to Nananom drinks, schnapps, boxes of water and an undisclosed cash to support the hosting of their visitors and benefactors who had come around for the festivities.
